Birding at the End of the World. 9 days/8 nights On this journey we will discover the southernmost birdlife of the American continent amidst one of the wildest landscapes on Earth, Patagonia. Beginning in Punta Arenas, we will cross the Strait of Magellan, enjoying the company of Peale’s Dolphin and the graceful flight of Black-browed Albatrosses and Antarctic Giant Petrels. In the windswept steppes of Tierra del Fuego, there is a great diversity of ducks and geese, including both Flying and Flightless Steamer Ducks, the beautiful Black-necked Swan, and Chilean Flamingos. Torres del Paine has great diversity of habitats, comprising steppes, shrublands and Nothofagus woods, surrounded by the extraordinary and dramatic beauty of mountains and glaciers. Discover the southernmost marine wildlife of the American continent amidst one of the wildest landscapes on Earth, Tierra del Fuego. This area has a considerable history, and this aspect adds to our understanding of this magnificent region. Our transport to this incredible and remote world is the SS Chonos, a 56' motor-sailer specifically designed to explore these waters, both above and below. Beginning in Punta Arenas, we will cross the Strait of Magellan, enjoying the company of Peale’s Dolphin and the graceful flight of Black-browed Albatrosses and Antarctic Giant Petrels. Additional marine mammals include Humpback Whale, Southern Elephant Seal, South America Sea Lion, Southern Fur Seal and the distinctive black and white Commerson's Dolphin. A special effort is made to see the rare Striated Caracara, and we visit a colony of Magellanic Penguins, Rock and King Cormorants. A Naturalist's Journey. 12 days / 11 nights. This tour offers an opportunity to discover mythical Patagonia and its natural wonders. Visit the Torres del Paine National Park, a park comprising a fascinating diversity of habitats and wildlife, from windswept steppes, shrubs and pristine sub-Antarctic Nothofagus forests to lakes, glaciers and impressive granite mountains, such as the Torres del Paine pinnacles. Guanacos, condors, foxes and flamingoes are just a few examples of the quality of the wildlife of this national park. Much of the Southern Andes is dominated by the huge Patagonian ice sheet. Sailing the freezing waters of the inlet of Ultima Esperanza allows exceptional views of the faces of the impressive Balmaceda and Serrano Glaciers. Learn about the first Patagonians and about the different tribes who lived in this region of windy plains, icy fjords and intricate channels. In the Strait of Magellan and the Beagle Channel we study the routes followed by Darwin and many other sailors and explorers. Along the way visit to breeding colonies of penguins and sea lions.
