Tucano aft observation deck
Observation
Deck:
This deck is open and an exceptional place to observe wildlife. The
forward balcony allows views to the front and into the treetops. From
beneath the sun canopy we see the world's greatest collection of birds
and the occasional monkey cavorting in the branches. From the top
deck there is wilderness as far as the eye can see.The top deck is
a wonderful place to lounge around as we cruise along the wilderness
river.
Middle Deck: The balcony around the front of the
boat is a wonderful place to pull up a chair and observe the forest
close up. The salon is airy and has windows all the way around. All
of the walls are paneled in lovely hardwood. Two cabins on this deck
have single beds seperated by a night stand. These cabins can accommodate
three travelers with the insertion of a third narrow bed. Two other
cabins number have a bunk bed with a twin size mattress above and
below. All of the cabins have private showers and sinks.

Main Deck: Two cabins on this deck have single beds seperated
by a nightstand. With the insertion of a third narrow bed, these cabins
can accommodate three travelers. Two other cabins number have a bunk
bed with a twin size mattress above and below. All of the cabins have

SHIP
DESIGN
The Tucano is a traditional Brazilian Amazon riverboat, with three
levels, a flat botto
m
to explore sh
allow
waterways, a wide berth for stability, and several observation areas.
Unlike the normal working boats, the Tucano is finished in richly
panelled local timbers, with large windows and brass lamps and fittings.
She is a delight to experience, and especially beautiful at night.
In addition to a spacious open observation deck on the top deck, partly
open to the sun but also with a large shade awning, there is a wide
balcony running around the front of the mid-deck. This is a perfect
spot to sit and watch for pink or gray river dolphins. The salon is
dining room, sitting area, and library, and being at the front of
the boat, its large windows make it a perfect place to sit in the
cool but still watch the forest go past.
CABINS
A
ll
cabins have private bathrooms with a hot pressurized shower, toilet,
and a sink. All cabins have large windows which open; all are insect-screened
(though generally there are very very few mosquitos on the voyage;
mosquitoes tend to be more associated with land-based standing water
and often human habitation. All the cabins and the Salon are air-conditioned.
Every cabin has its own thermostat and individual controls, so your
cabin can be as cool or as warm as you wish. As can be seen from the
photo, cabins and salon are panelled in rich local woods, with polished
wood floors adding to the tropical riverboat ambience.
